Resumo

Esta é uma investigação sobre o tempo que leva a informação sobre pesquisas em andamento a tornar-se acessível à comunidade cientifica através de vários canais de comunicação. Esse tipo de informação tende a espalhar-se muito rapidamente nos colégios invisíveis; portanto, é limitado àqueles cientistas que estão bem integrados na comunidade científica, A existência de um projeto de pesquisa é conhecida através das fontes primárias depois de estar em andamento por três a seis meses. Aqueles que utilizam como fonte os relatórios de pesquisa terão conhecimento do projeto uns seis meses após seu início. Um trabalho sobre a pesquisa é apresentado numa conferência doze meses depois. A primeira referência ao profeta aparece na literatura periódica dezoito meses após seu início. Os cientistas que recorrem aos serviços de indexação e resumo tomarão conhecimento do projeto com dois anos de atraso. Através do Science Gtation Index, a pesquisa será conhecida uns quarenta meses após seu início. Conclui-se que um serviço de alerta realmente corrente deve se basear em informações sobre pesquisas em andamento, e não esperar até que essa informação tenha sido envolucrada na literatura periódica.

This is an investigation of the speed with which Information on cutrent research canbe made available to the scientific community through various possible channels of communication. This kind of  information tends to spread very rapidly within invisible colleges; therefore, it is limited to those scientists who are well integrated into the scientific community. The existence of a research project it learned through prirnary sources after it has been in progressão for between three and six months. For those who use the report literature, the project could be accessïble some six months after its inception. A conference paper is presented twelve months later. The first reference to the project to appear in scientific journals occurs some eighteen months after its beginning. Those who rely on indexing and abstracting services learn of the project two years later. When Science Citation Index is used, it will be learned after someforty months. A really current current awareness service must be based on Information, relating to ongoing research and must not wait until this information has been encapsulated in the Journal literature.
