This is a narrative review of literature whose focus is on historical and temporal aspects of information policy, not objectively relating to the numerous studies, definitions and conceptualizations of the theme. The objective is focused on the facets of power, communication and control that permeate much of documentation found, which strengthens this eminently political activity as a practice of government. The bibliographical research was carried out in Web of Science, Science Direct, JStor, and Google Scholar, an informational repository.
