COGNITIVE PARADIGM OF INFORMATION SCIENCE AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF KNOWLEDGE

Based on Rafael Capurro's theoretical framework related to the scientific field of Information Science, which focuses on three epistemological paradigms, the physical, the cognitive and the social, whose characteristics are distinct, but at the same time have intersections and complementarities. The present study aims to understand the complex phenomenon of information and the concepts attributed within the scope of Information Science, more specifically with regard to the cognitive paradigm, aiming to understand the importance of the user as a cognizant subject of informational processes. It is intended to discuss, from a cognitive perspective, the relevance and contribution of this approach to the field of Information Science. This study was developed based on a bibliographical review of specialized literature in the field of Information Science, through the selection and analysis of scientific articles. It was observed that the concept of information acquires peculiarities according to the approach used. With regard to the user, it was found that he is now seen as an active knowing subject during the process of searching and using information to carry out activities or solve problems. It is concluded that information from the perspective of the knowing subject must consider the relevance of the social conditions inherent to the information and its context, that is, the user's interaction with the social and/or organizational environment in which they are inserted.
