Abstract

This paper explores the need for developing intercultural information ethics in the context of algorithmic culture. As technology continues to advance and algorithms play an increasingly significant role in our lives, it is crucial to consider the ethical implications of these systems from a cross-cultural perspective. The methodological approach is a non-systematic literature review. By examining how different cultures perceive and value information, we can better understand algorithmic decision-making’s potential biases and challenges from massive data extraction and data colonialism. This research aims to contribute to developing a more inclusive and equitable approach to algorithmic culture by addressing the debate on intercultural information ethics. This inclusive and equitable approach to algorithmic culture can help address cultural biases in automated decision-making processes. By considering diverse perspectives, we can strive for fair and unbiased algorithms, promoting equal opportunities and outcomes for individuals from different cultural backgrounds. This research can also shed light on the need for culturally sensitive algorithms that respect and protect individual privacy and data rights across various cultures. These critical reflections are mainly based on the ethical problems caused by algorithms in algorithmic culture.
