Journals

  • Ciência da Informação

Journal Ciência da Informação was launched in 1972, by the then Brazilian Institute of Bibliography and Documentation (IBBD), current Brazilian Science and Technology Information Institute (Ibict). The journal was the first scientific journal in Latin America dedicated exclusively to discussing problems of information generation, control and transfer in the face of a new era of this science. In the 1970s, the most recurrent themes of the journal were: “information system”, “Bibliometrics”, “selective dissemination of information” and “information science”. Following the evolution of the Science of Information discipline, the journal approached, in the following decade, with greater emphasis, the themes related to “bibliometrics”, “information policy”, “scientific communication” and “information representation”. "Information management", "information science theory", "information technologies" and "information network system" were the most frequent themes in the journal during the 1990s. In the first four years of the 21st century, the theme most addressed was “information technology”, followed by articles dealing with “information policies”. A detailed study can be found in Ciência da Informação: 32 years (1972-2004) on the path of the history and horizons of a Brazilian scientific journal. The potential for disseminating and universalizing access to the Journal was expanded in 1982, when several research services indexing, national and international, started to insert the journal in their databases.
