The affections in the reason’s artifacts

critical paths of truth in the Anthropocene

  • It is a theoretical reflection on the notion of objective truth associated with the “book” (in its broad historical expression, beyond the vegetal codex) as language-artifact as a deterministic mediator of knowledge. The article focuses on the scientific denialism in the Anthropocene as one of the fruits of the scientific paradigm that opposes reason and affectivity, an ontological problem of language, from which Information Science is born. The beginning of the Anthropocene here is confused with the nature’s machine of reproducibility, encapsulated by the book, from the 15th century onwards. As a social science responsible for the organization, classification and circulation of official scientific knowledge, its foundation - based on the fetishism of technique as a solution for progress - remains one of the challenges to be overcome in contemporary times. For the dialogue, we start with the transhistorical theory of Lev Vygotsky, the notion of epistemological rupture in Bachelard and the concept of technology in Álvaro Vieira Pinto
