SOLIDARITY DEVELOPMENT:

THE STRATEGIC DIMENSION OF THE SOLIDARITY ECONOMY IN PAUL SINGER

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the foundations of the solidarity economy as a strategy of solidarity development based on the theoretical and militant construction of Paul Singer. To this end, studies have been carried out in works by the author that deal with this question with different dimensions of analysis and in different historical contexts, from the 1960s until his most recent productions in the 21st century, confronting the model of capitalist development with solidarity and highlighting some of the virtues and strategies of the solidarity economy in community development initiatives. It has been possible to learn that the issues that have challenged Singer since his analyzes regarding the challenges of overcoming underdevelopment, about alternatives to capitalist development, and whether it is possible to bring development to poor communities, are closely intertwined in the works analyzed here. In all these dimensions and perspectives of analysis, one must have a utopian point of view or orientation of a social system capable of overcoming the contradictions of capitalism. At the same time, it demands a militant posture of constructing this alternative from the current reality of the hegemony of capital, which requires rescuing and constructing new strategies of socioeconomic organization guided by the values and principles of solidarity, cooperation and self-management.
