Unit of information: results of the case study in the Institute Euvaldo Lodi of Minas Gerais (IEL/MG)

In a globalized society, competition faced by organizations has required constant development and enhancement of knowledge, technologies, products and services. Business organizations require extensive knowledge to be recycled and expanded periodically. The unit of information inserted in that market opportunities has the role of providing products and services that meet the needs and informational demands of its customers. This will be referred to as the entire organization it consumes and provides services and information products and contributes to competitiveness and to innovation. Thus, all the areas, sectors and organizational departments that request and generate information is here denominated information units. This article aims to understand the Institute Euvaldo Lodi of Minas Gerais as a unit of information, as well as knowing the process informational. This is a qualitative case study, achieved through interviews with managers working in different fields the Knowledge. The Institute focuses on transforming investments in applied knowledge for organizations of industrial production chain, but also provide business opportunities, enhanced competitiveness, innovation and sustainability; are actions aimed at promoting the competitiveness of industry in Minas Gerais both market domestic as in international. It was found that although the organization has its management process fragment information, the exchange of information is not natural, has characteristics of an information unit, for producing and providing products and information services to industry. It is concluded that the IEL / MG is a unit of information to provide and produce services and products information for its internal and external environment, industries of Minas Gerais.
