The article aims to analyze a key aspect of Negri´s readings of Marxian texts, from the studies published in the late 1970s until today. We problematize, in particular, the interpretation of the "Fragment on Machines", the passage of the Grundrisse notebooks in which the notion of General Intellect first appears. We will discuss to what extent the liberation of work and the establishment of cooperative networks, generated by the automation of production, indicates a resistance potentiality of the labor force, as claimed by Negri. We hope this analysis will help to clarify the specificities of Negri’s concept of multitude, as the Italian theorist himself designates it as a class concept.
