This article analyzes venture capital (VC) investment patterns by large digital platform companies, highlighting their influence on the reorganization of the center-periphery system in the Digital Age. Based on Crunchbase data, we identified that Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a central role in the investment strategies of major U.S. and Chinese Big Tech companies, such as those represented by the acronyms GAFAM and BAT, covering sectors like software, healthcare, education, and e-commerce. However, in Latin American and African countries, these investments are concentrated in sectors not directly related to AI, such as finance and commerce. The study reveals the technological dependence of peripheral countries, where AI development is limited, reflecting unequal patterns of global innovation.
