Denialism, Stigmatmtization and desinformation
nuances of Climate Discourse Surrounding the COP30 in the Amazon
Keywords:
Climate Culture, Disinformation, COP30Abstract
This article aims to analyze the narrative disputes surrounding COP30 in order to understand the nuances of climate culture around the world’s largest global climate conference. Methodologically, the study adopted a qualitative approach, based on documentary research, guided by media framing analysis. The analytical focus is grounded in the concept of climate delay discourses and in approaches developed by research institutes, coalitions, and journalistic outlets, in addition to complementary documents. The analysis emphasizes three axes: information disorder as a structural feature of the media ecosystem; territorial stigmatization as a process of symbolic delegitimization; and information integrity as an institutional practice for confronting disinformation. As a result, the articulation of these axes and their markers makes it possible to understand the narrative disputes involved in the construction of meanings about COP30, Belém, and the Amazon, indicating that disinformation operates through recurring frames that reproduce historical regimes of exclusion and delegitimization. Furthermore, the article argues that information integrity emerges as a strategic element of resistance for promoting a plural and democratic debate on the climate crisis.
