a discourse analysis in the black press newspapers’ of the Library at UFC

Abstract

The Information Science as a field of knowledge is concerned to bring, to their studies, the transdisciplinary approach, enabling interaction with other fields of knowledge, in order to seek conceptual elements to contribute with its theoretical and practice framework for the information in the communication area in such of the knowledge in context. The debate about memory requires reflection in the Information Science researches’, especially when viewed from the standpoint of how the history of the Afro-Brazilian is present as memory, in the journalistic discourse. Through these newspapers are catalyzed the expressions political, institutional, collectivist dialogues about interracial relationships, legitimizing social inequality by skin color. In this sense, the goal of this research is to analyze the construction of the images about the Afro-Brazilian in the journalistic discourse, focusing on analysis of the black press newspapers’, O Menelick and A Peróla, which circulated in the year 1916. Specifically aims to: a) identify and make a map of the editions of the black press newspapers’ stored in the repository of the UFC, b) locate the role of the black press in the journalistic field and its production in the year 1916; c) to relate the discourse about the Afro-Brazilian, produced by the black press with the historical context, political, economic and cultural analysis period. The most appropriate methodology to be used is the one providing a discursive approach in the view of Eni Orlandi (2009) and Patrick Charaudeau (2009), which are not concerned with the quantification in the construction of data, since these are grouped according to its quality, its features, requiring us a task of conceptualization. In the analysis of newspapers, it was found that the Afro-Brazilian is presented by setting composed of protests, claims, educational background and his desire to integrate in the society, that is permeated in the a discourse by the search of his identity.
