The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), is the agency in charge of preparing the trademark registration in Brazil. In its system of management it employs the SINPI, a database in which are recorded the bureaucratic procedures concerning the assessment of aplications for trademark registration. In this study, we tested the possibility of using data stored in the SINPI to think about aspects of Brazilian economic development.
