Abstract

Application contexts, transdisciplinarity and social relevance are some of the characteristics of the so-called mode 2 of science production. In this model, the exchange of information and transparency are valued, inspiring knowledge production experiences based on collaboration. An example is the case of “alien bacteria”, where a scientific controversy has been discussed and amplified by internet tools. It reveals the coexistence of traditional science with open science, characterized by exchange and transparency, leading to a reflection on the production of knowledge in the contemporary world, its tensions and challenges for the future.
