Indigenous artifacts and its representation in the thesaurus of material culture of indians in Brazil

ABSTRACT The Thesaurus of Indian material culture in Brazil was carried out aiming at the establishment of a standard terminology to represent artifacts produced by the Brazilian indigenous societies. This terminology was prepared to index and represent the collections of ethnological documents of the Indian Museum in order to facilitate the communication between the Museum services and their researchers. This article intends to unite theoretical evidence in information science, specifically in knowledge organization domain, about the development of thesauri and a practical experience, exploring methodological aspects of the construction of a thesaurus based on concepts.
