This paper analyzes criteria for newsworthiness in news of death, the effects of meaning in news coverage, as well as sensationalism, breach of privacy and journalists’ behavior in news production routines. The silence of the news media in stories of suicide and its consequences. Deemed as a social stigma by some of the mainstream media in Brazil and neighboring countries, death still deserves a special treatment in narrative journalism
