Structural racism, epistemology of ignorance and the productivity of colonial discourse: impacts on the maintenance of the Palmares Cultural Foundation’s bibliographic collection

Abstract

In this article, the concepts of structural racism, epistemology of ignorance and productivity of the colonial discourse are systematized. Subsequently, from content analysis, a cartography of controversies was elaborated, involving different social actors in the technical report publication context known as “RETRATO DO ACERVO - Três décadas de dominação marxista na Fundação Cultural Palmares”. According to the adopted theoretical framework, a set of social controversies, derived from the aforementioned published technical report, was analyzed with the aim of understanding the productivity in, as well as, the permanence and limits of the colonial discourse in knowledge production and circulation spaces, in empirical terms. It was concluded that the epistemology of ignorance assumption in spaces of knowledge organization and dissemination may provide a dogmatic knowledge environment and, by extension, validate partial epistemic justifications that tend to deny the effects of cumulative inequality and unilateral management of records, knowledge and social memory
