Analysis of the contributions of Knowledge-Based Risk Management to the improvement of public services

Risk management, which is mandatory within the scope of the Federal Executive Branch, is a complex and challenging activity. In a recent assessment, the Federal Court of Auditors, through the 2024 Governance, Sustainability and Innovation Index, identified low levels of maturity in risk management in federal universities located in the Northeast region of Brazil. Considering that risk management can be enhanced by integration with knowledge management, this article aims to analyze the contributions of knowledge-based risk management to the improvement of this process in the public service. This is a basic research, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, with a qualitative approach and based on a bibliographic review. The results indicate that the integration of the knowledge management process with the risk management process provides practical gains, such as compliance with legal precepts, recognition of organizational competencies, promotion of organizational knowledge, consolidation of the culture of risk management, among others. These are results that expand the institutional capacity to respond to uncertainties, generating positive impacts in the organizational and social spheres.
