The digitalization of information provoked a crisis in the private appropriation of cultural goods. Simultaneously, political movements are being internationally organized aiming at criticizing cultural goods being treated as commodities. The analysis of the meaning and role of those political movements demands reviewing the concept of commodity. To question the concept of commodity two radical authors are reviewed: Karl Marx and Karl Polanyi, their possible contributions to the comprehension of those political movements being so evaluated.
