We aim to think over the phenomenon of interdisciplinarity, based on the studies of Gusdorf (1967), Japiassu (1976), Fazenda (1993, 1995, 2009), Pombo (1994, 2003) and Nicolescu (1999). We investigate the genesis of interdisciplinarity, explaining the phases that make up this movement. Then we describe some of the most used conceptions of interdisciplinarity, since there are numerous controversies around the meaning of the term. After that, discusses the interpretative approaches of information science theorists that characterize it as an interdisciplinary discipline.
