Abstract

This text shows that Science’s discursive practice, geared toward the market and conditioning its growth, is one of the key elements for the pressure exerted by corporations for the patenting of software, algorithms, genetic codes, and living beings. By discussing the risk of patenting logically chained routines, the article moves forward showing attempts to approve patenting of living beings in Brazil. Finally, it notes the efforts by academics and activists to defend open knowledge and block the advancement of patenting.
