Deceiving appearances

heuristics, stereotypes and spectacularization on media visibility

  • The article´s purpose is understanding the process of artificial insufflation on public interest in themes that become notorius due to the media visibility achieved by social actors´ orchestrated actions. The creation of pseudo-events consolidates credible narratives in order to schedule press coverage and reverberate on social networks, gaining notoriety and repercussion related to business, market or political interests, presented in a non-transparent manner.  For this, exploratory research, of documentary character, was developed with the objective of indicating the relationship between private interests and the artificial construction of an agenda of public interest propagated in the media platforms, and a case study on the political and electoral actions of former United States´s President Donald Trump in the process of developing a populist narrative based on the permanent use of misinformation.
