Analysis of scientific production on provenance marks in Brazilian Information Science

Provenance marks are signs found in bibliographic materials that indicate the ownership, use, or origin of an item, playing a crucial role in preserving memory and documenting the history of collections. Its general objective is to present the panorama of discussions on provenance mark studies in Information Science in Brazil. Bibliographical research in terms of procedures and exploratory research in terms of objectives, employs bibliometric techniques to analyze scientific articles indexed in the Information Science Database. Production indicators were developed, revealing a total of 39 publications, concentrated in 32 institutions, both public and private. The main results indicate that discussions on provenance marks, especially on ex libris and property marks, are still incipient in the field of Information Science, and there is a need for more research to strengthen this theme. It is concluded that, despite not being a recent subject in scientific literature, provenance marks are still a little explored topic in Information Science research in Brazil, indicating a gap that needs to be addressed.
