Presupposition for National Program of Informational Competencies
Abstract
This text begins with the background on policy and strategic perspectives at the institutional level for information literacy in the United States, highlighting the essential ideas of Paul Zurkowski's article – The Information Service Environment Relationships and Priorities. The main subject is the conjecture of why a national policy in information literacy is absolutely required for basic education in Brazil. According to the National Education Guidelines and considering that a brand new countrywide law obliges each school to have at least one library in twenty years, some procedures and methodologies are suggested for the performance of librarian at the elementary and high school.
