Relata-se o desenvolvimento dos conceitos filosóficos/práticos embutidos nas cinco leis de Ranganathan, desde a sua enunciação até os dias de hoje, de acordo com um estudo comparativo da interpretação de vários autores na literatura internacional. Comprova-se a modernidade das leis, que até hoje ainda podem servir de fonte para o estabelecimento de uma filosofia para a Biblioteconomia, de base para uma atuação eficiente do bibliotecário e corno elemento essencial para o processo de planejamento e avaliação de serviços e sistemas de informação de qualquer nível.

The contemporaneousness of Ranganathan's five laws
Abstract
Development of the philosophical and practical concepts of Ranganathan's "five laws" is described, in a comparative study ot these laws as interpreted by international authors in the literature. It is praved the contemporaneousness of these "five laws" that can still be used for the establishment of a philosophy for library science as a basis for an efficiet performance of librarians and as the essential element for the processes of planning and evaluation of services and
information systems at any level.
