Knowledge as a strategic resource for companies
Abstract
Environmental changes in the economic, political, social and technological scenes, associated to the growing market competition and to the higher demand for quality from the clients, led contemporary organizations to appreciate information, knowledge and intelligence as their most valuable strategic resources. Another consequence of such transformations have been the perception of preservation and development of organization's specific knowledge as important managerial roles, be that knowledge coded as data, document, information, system, or else, personalized as the expert's know-how or integrated as the firm's competitive intelligence. Thus, organizations do their best to develop this knowledge (through education, training and communication), record it (via information technology and systems with distint levels of added value) and integrate the strategic use of its different foras under a unified information resources management. Under this perspective, Brazilian organizations must now evaluate the information support available to their managers and specialists /engineers if they should have a place in the next millennium.
