Abstract

This article examines the importance of strategic communication in Indigenous data governance, with a focus on data sovereignty. Through a descriptive exploratory literature review, the study investigates how participatory strategic communication practices foster awareness, empowerment, dialogue, and collaboration among stakeholders. Strategic communication is seen as a crucial tool to enhance awareness, empower communities, facilitate dialogue, and promote ethical and respectful practices in the management of data from Indigenous peoples and communities. The conclusion is that this process must be continuous and adaptable to the needs of Indigenous communities, valuing their voices and advancing towards fair, inclusive, and equitable data governance.
