Awareness of the risks of environmental degradation, ecological collapse and exacerbation of social inequalities still raises questions about the effects of scientific-technological progress and economic rationality. This essay aims to discuss the Anthropocene from the perspective of sustainable development, seeking to locate the elements for its disruption from the role of science. Thus, the following questions become guiding questions: on what levels can the hybridization of knowledge and cultures be articulated in the context of environmental rationality by science? What are the challenges involved in the systematization of traditional knowledge in Information Science? The research uses bibliographic research methods, in a qualitative approach. The theoretical framework is established in terms of social epistemology, based on studies of science, technology and society. The discussion on science and social order showed the need to strengthen awareness of ethics and values of science, for the intertwining of scientific guidelines with the problems of society. It also indicated that the revolution in scientific fields not only provides emerging paradigms from which solutions can be found to overcome the Anthropocene, but also allows for interdisciplinarity. The systematization of traditional knowledge requires its consideration as a set of knowledge, traditions, languages, symbols and rituals, objects, gestures, beliefs, values, etc., dispersed across various manifestations of the experiences of traditional peoples and communities. And critically rethink theories, methods, processes, languages, systems, technologies, etc. for its organization and representation
