This article aims to identify which individual needs motivate citizens to be engaged in the adoption of Smart Cities. Technological adoption can be influenced by several factors, such as ease of use, cost, availability of resources, or technical support and security, in addition to being an alternative to help solve the challenges of cities for their development in a sustainable way. sustainable. Smart Cities (CI) are seen as a response to the growth and development needs of cities, especially in a context of accelerated urbanization and global climate change, serving as solutions to problems for public managers. Citizen participation is important for building CIs; however, their participation permeates wanting to be part of, needing to be part of, that is, being engaged in development. In this sense, we intend to associate Maslow's theory of needs with the Engagement for Adoption of Smart Cities. Therefore, the question arises, Which Maslow's Needs are important for the Engagement and adoption of technologies for the construction of Smart Cities? For that, a survey was carried out with the citizens of the capital of Pará through online means. The technology adoption scales, Maslow's needs scales and Engagement scales were adopted. As a result, it is stated that all Needs are important, and the adoption of Smart Cities is only achieved if it is through Engagement. In this way, public managers should develop public policies to meet the needs of citizens, aiming at greater engagement for the adoption of Smart Cities.
