Additional Editorial Standards

The Additional Editorial Guidelines of the journal Ciência da Informação were established to ensure the quality, integrity, and standardization of submitted works, aligning with the best editorial and scientific practices. These guidelines complement the journal's general policies, providing detailed instructions on formal, ethical, and technical aspects that authors must observe during the preparation and submission of their manuscripts.
In this text, specific criteria related to formatting, structure, originality, data management, use of visual elements, and references, among other essential aspects for submission to Ciência da Informação, are addressed. Authors are advised to carefully read these guidelines before submitting their manuscripts to avoid inconsistencies that may result in delays or rejection of their work.
These guidelines include:

  • The submitted content must align with the focus and scope of the journal Ciência da Informação, as well as its editorial policies and guidelines.

  • The contribution must be original and not under evaluation for publication in another journal. If the work is being considered by another publication, this situation must be justified in the "Comments to the Editor." Originality implies that the scientific document is NOT under review by any other journal.

  • Texts previously presented at scientific events may be considered, provided they demonstrate significant improvements in discussions and results. The author must provide all relevant details in the "Comments to the Editor" section.

  • In the case of preprints, the author must indicate the trusted repository where the document is available and adhere to the editorial policies of Ciência da Informação—available at https://revista.ibict.br/ciinf/preprints.

  • If the document includes research data, these must have been stored in public data management repositories. The author must provide all pertinent details in the "Comments to the Editor" (see Data Management Policy).

  • Electronic addresses must be accurate, up-to-date, and valid, and must be properly included in the references when available.

  • The text must follow the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Additional Guidelines and must be formatted using the corresponding template.

  • The document must adhere to the minimum and maximum page limits according to the type of submission (scientific article, experience report, case study, opinion article, literature review, or book review).

  • The title must be written in the original language of the submission, clearly and precisely expressing the overall content of the document.

  • Keywords and abstracts must be written in the original language of the submission and must not exceed 300 (three hundred) words.

  • Section titles must be written in uppercase and bold, while subsection titles must have only the first letter of the first word capitalized and be in bold.

  • The paper size must be A4, with top, bottom, and left margins of 3 cm and a right margin of 2 cm.

  • Paragraphs must have 1.5-line spacing. For long quotations (four lines or more), footnotes, figure sources, and other details, single spacing must be used. The entire text must be justified and have a 1.25 cm indentation from the left margin at the beginning of each paragraph.

  • Quotations of up to 3 (three) lines must be included in the text, enclosed in quotation marks. Quotations longer than 3 lines must be indented from the paragraph, without quotation marks.

  • Citations must comply with the guidelines established by ABNT NBR 10520:2023.

  • References must follow the standards established by ABNT NBR 6023:2018.

  • Foreign words must be italicized.

  • Figures, tables, charts, and quotations must be submitted with translations in English, Spanish, and Portuguese in an editable format.

  • Illustrations, graphs, drawings, tables, and other visual elements should only be used when essential for understanding the text. They must be positioned as close as possible to the section where they are mentioned, with proper source attribution. It is preferable to submit images in separate files from the text, preferably in high resolution (400 DPI), in .TIFF, .EPS, or .JPEG formats.

  • The file containing the submitted document must be attached in .DOC or .DOCX format.
