Normas Editoriais Gerais
The journal Ciência da Informação (Information Science) adopts rigorous standards of integrity and scientific excellence. The publication of text strictly follows the guidelines outlined in the Editorial Policies and Editorial Guidelines - Author Orientation sections, which establish the editorial criteria.
Originality Ciência da Informação only publishes texts originating from original research. The journal exclusively publishes texts from original research. Submission of preprints made available in recognized repositories, such as SciELO Preprints, is accepted. The reproduction or translation of previously published texts is possible, subject to approval by the Editorial Board.
Confidentiality The entire editorial process, from submission to final decision, is conducted under strict confidentiality, with the exception of preprints. Editorial Board members and ad hoc reviewers are instructed not to disclose information about manuscripts or interact with authors and reviewers. The journal Ciência da Informação strictly adheres to the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) (Law No. 13,709/2018), its principles and foundations. All personal data collected during the editorial process are treated in accordance with the LGPD, ensuring the privacy and rights of data subjects. This includes, but is not limited to, data from authors, reviewers, and editorial board members. The journal implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk, protecting against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction, or damage of personal data.
Arbitration The Editors-in-Chief reserve the right to refuse manuscripts or editorial projects, even after initial approval by the Editorial Board, if inconsistencies with the Editorial Policy are identified. Decisions of this nature can be proposed by any member of the Editorial Board and require approval after collective deliberation.
Authors or organizers of dossiers have the right to a single request for reconsideration, which will be re-evaluated by the Editorial Board based on the justifications presented.
In the event of suspected bias on the part of an Editorial Board member, the arbitration process will be reanalyzed to ensure an ethical and consistent evaluation.
Only one appeal is allowed for each text or editorial project.
Texts Derived from Academic Production The journal considers the republication of content from doctoral theses or master's dissertations, as long as aligned with the Editorial Policy. In these cases, the author is required to inform the origin of the text, make appropriate self-citations, and include relevant bibliographic references.
The publication of texts made available by other publishers may be considered upon justification by the author or editor, supported by an inter-institutional cooperation agreement and approval by the Editorial Board.
Full articles from scientific events in the field of Information Science may be considered for publication.
Data and/or Code Sharing The journal strongly encourages the publication of data and computational codes that support the submitted studies. Adherence to FAIR Principles and deposit in dedicated repositories, whether institutional or generic, such as Bitbucket, GitHub, and Zenodo, is recommended. For additional information on repository options, it is suggested to consult the Registry of Research Data Repositories.
