SUBMISSIONS - AUTHOR GUIDELINES - Updated in February 2025.
Registration in the OJS System
All documents must be submitted exclusively through the Open Journal System (OJS), available at: https://revista.ibict.br/ciinf/about/submissions. It is mandatory for documents to be formatted according to the template corresponding to the specific type of submission, the TEMPLATES can be accessed in the Documents section of the journal (https://revista.ibict.br/ciinf/documentos).
Registration in the system, as well as subsequent access via login and password, are fundamental requirements for submitting documents and monitoring the editorial process. Authors must access an existing account (https://revista.ibict.br/ciinf/login) or register a new account (https://revista.ibict.br/ciinf/user/register).
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS TO THE JOURNAL CIÊNCIA DA INFORMAÇÃO
The journal Ciência da Informação accepts submissions of scientific documents, defined as works of declared authorship that discuss ideas, methods, techniques, processes, and results in various areas of knowledge, with a main focus on Information Science. The types of documents accepted include:

To ensure the appropriateness of submissions, it is essential that authors strictly adhere to the guidelines established in the editorial flow, the editorial policies (menu), and the journal's editorial norms, detailed in their respective sections. Below are the criteria and procedures necessary for submission:
General Requirements for Authorship
1.1. Individual Authorship.
It is a mandatory condition that the author exclusively holds a Doctorate degree. Submissions from master's degree holders or graduates will not be accepted, except when directed to a specific Thematic Dossier for that audience.
1.2. Co-authorship.
At least one of the authors must hold a Doctorate degree, while the others may be master's degree holders or doctoral candidates. The individual contribution of each author must be specified according to the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). The inclusion of the Responsibility Declaration, duly signed by all authors, is mandatory and available in the journal's Documents section.
1.3. Author Information:
Authors must provide:
- Full name, as it should appear in the publication.
- Academic title (e.g., Doctor, Master, Graduate) and area of specialization.
- Institutional affiliation (institution, department, or unit, if applicable).
- Professional contact (institutional email).
- Academic identifiers, such as ORCID or Lattes ID (in the case of Brazil).
Originality and Exclusivity
2.1. Originality.
The submitted contribution must be original and cannot be under evaluation with another journal simultaneously. If the document is under evaluation with another publication, it is mandatory to inform and justify this situation in the "Comments to the Editor" section of the Open Journal System (OJS).
2.2. Documents published in events or Preprints.
Texts submitted to scientific events will only be considered if they present significant improvements in discussions and results. The author must detail these changes in the "Comments to the Editor" section of the Open Journal System (OJS). In the case of preprints, the author should indicate the reliable repository where the document is available and adhere to the journal's editorial policies, available at: Preprint Policy.
Formatting and Structure of the Document
3.1. Template and Length.
The document must follow the appropriate template for the type of submission, available in the journal's Documents section: Scientific Documents - Templates. The minimum and maximum page lengths vary according to the type of document:
- Scientific article: 15 to 30 pages.
- Literature review: 20 to 30 pages
- Opinion articles: 10 to 20 pages.
- Case studies: 10 to 15 pages.
- Experience reports: 10 to 20 pages.
- Reviews: 4 to 10 pages.
3.2. Graphic Elements and Tables
Figures, charts, tables, and citations must be submitted in editable format, with translations in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Illustrations, graphics, drawings, and tables should be used only when essential for understanding the text, positioned as close as possible to the section in which they are mentioned. Images should be submitted in separate files, preferably in high resolution (400 dpi), in TIFF, EPS, or JPEG formats.
3.3. References and Citations
The document must follow the style guidelines and bibliographic requirements outlined in the journal's guidelines:
- ABNT NBR 5892:2019 – Representation and formats of time - dates and hours - Presentation;
- ABNT NBR 6028:2021 – Summaries - Procedure;
- ABNT NBR 10520:2023 – Citations in documents;
- ABNT NBR 6022:2018 – Article in technical and/or scientific periodic publication;
- ABNT NBR 6023:2018 – References - Preparation;
- ABNT NBR 14724:2024 – Academic Works and the Table Presentation Norm of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Submission and Editorial Process
4.1. Submission System
All documents must be submitted exclusively through the Open Journal System (OJS), available at: Submissions. Registration in the system and access via login and password are mandatory for submission and monitoring of the editorial process.
4.2. Compliance with the Scope.
The submitted content must be fully compliant with the scope and areas of interest of the journal, detailed at: Journal Scope.
4.3. Accepted Languages.
Documents are published in the original language of submission, with works accepted in Portuguese (from Brazil and Portugal), English, or Spanish. Submissions in other languages will be considered at the discretion of the Chief Editors.
4.4. Review and Adjustments.
The journal reserves the right to make normative, spelling, and grammatical changes to the originals, maintaining an appropriate standard of language while respecting the author's style. Incomplete submissions or those that do not meet the guidelines will be returned for adjustments. If corrections are not made according to the instructions, the document will be rejected.
Privacy Policies and Data Use
The information provided during registration and submission will be used exclusively for purposes related to the services offered by the journal, in accordance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD - Law No. 13.709/2018). The collected data will not be shared with third parties or used for purposes not related to the journal's activities.
Fees and Access
No fees for submission, evaluation, or editing (grammar review, normalization, translations, and layout) are charged. All published documents are available in open access, following the journal's open science guidelines.
Open Science Compliance Form
It is mandatory for all authors to complete and sign the Open Science Compliance Form, available in the journal's Documents section. This form must be submitted as an integral part of the submission, accompanying the scientific document, in order to ensure adherence to open science practices and the appropriate availability of data and supplementary materials, when applicable.

Attention to Necessary Documents for Submission
It is essential that all authors pay attention to the list of mandatory documents that must be submitted along with the submission in the Open Journal System (OJS). Below are the necessary documents:

Main Scientific Document:
- The complete text, formatted according to the appropriate template for the type of submission (scientific article, experience report, case study, etc.), available in the journal’s Documents section.
- The submitted document must comply with the guidelines for length, formatting, references, and citations, as detailed in item 3. Formatting and Structure of the Document of the Submission Guidelines. These guidelines include adherence to the specific template for the type of submission, respect for the established page limits, presentation of graphic elements and tables in editable format, and observation of style standards and bibliographic requirements. Non-compliance with these guidelines may result in the document being returned for adjustments or rejected.

Responsibility Declaration:
- A document signed by all authors declaring the originality of the work, compliance with editorial policies, and responsibility for the information provided. The template is available in the Documents section.

Open Science Compliance Form:
- A form completed and signed by all authors, ensuring adherence to open science practices, including the availability of data and supplementary materials in public repositories, when applicable. The template is available in the Documents section.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Declaration Form:
- The Artificial Intelligence Use Declaration Form must be duly completed and signed by all authors of the document. This form ensures adherence to open science practices, promoting transparency and collaboration in scientific research. The template is available in the Documents section. Authors commit to making data and supplementary materials available in public repositories whenever applicable, in order to facilitate reproducibility and access to information. The form model can be found in the Documents section, where authors can access it to ensure compliance with the established guidelines. It is essential that all authors carefully read the instructions and accurately complete the form, ensuring integrity and ethics in the use of AI.

Incomplete submissions or the absence of any of these documents will result in the return of the work for adjustments. If corrections are not made according to the instructions and the established deadline (7 days), the document will be rejected.
